FYS 2015 – Week 3

Week three marked the halfway point for the 2015 FYS season. Like the weeks before it, week three was filled with hard work, fun, and learning.

The Trail Busters (Crew 1) and Baller Bobcats (Crew 3) continued to push north on the PCT north of the 68 Road. By weeks end, they’d completed another mile of tread and brushing work on the section. Giving us over two miles of tread and brushing during the two weeks on the project.

The Timber Tigers (Crew 2) and Daisy Chain Gang (Crew 4) spent the week pruning white pine trees south of Peterson Prairie. The crews completed Unit 4, which comes in at just over 21 acres.

Friday was a big day for FYS!

Not only did, WSU 4-H Regional Director Missy Cummins provide everyone with great information and strategies for maintaining a good credit rating and score, crews also took a field trip out to Panther Creek. Oh yeah, and everyone got paid!

Before the checks were distributed, the crews had a full day of learning in the classroom and exploring out at Panther Creek. Crews rotated between stations that focused on decomposition of plants, animal adaptations, experiencing nature, and gathering and identifying specimens from Panther Creek.

After the checks were distributed and the Crew Leaders had explain why everyone had to pay taxes and workers comp. it was time to wish everyone a good weekend and start preparing for the second half of the season.
